Attorney Matthew Kilgo is a criminal and drunk driving defense lawyer with Hawkins Law Firm where he defends people who have been accused of committing a felony or misdemeanor crime or driving while under the influence.

Attorney Matt Kilgo brings a wealth of experience to the practice, having held positions as a prosecutor in many of the courts in which Hawkins Law Firm continues to represent clients.  His knowledge of the law and, in particular, his deep contacts in the local legal community help him provide quality legal advice to his clients.

Legal Education

Matt graduated from Auburn University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. In 1999 he earned his law degree from the Georgia State University College of Law. 

Mediation & Law Clerking

During his time in law school he worked as a state-certified mediator and as a law clerk in the Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement (formerly INS) legal offices in Atlanta.  Matt went on to finish law school with a partial scholarship from a local philanthropic association.

Soon after graduation, Attorney Kilgo was employed as a prosecutor, first with the Cherokee County, Georgia, Solicitor’s Office, prosecuting people arrested for drunk driving and other misdemeanors; then for almost three years as an assistant solicitor in the City of Atlanta.

After service in the US Marine Corps, Matt became a DUI prosecutor in Cobb County, Georgia, where he earned a name as an aggressive trial attorney. 

Attorney Matt Kilgo served as a felony trial prosecutor in the Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney’s Office and, later as regional counsel for the Recording Industry Association of America’s criminal anti-piracy program in the southeast.
