Legal Education

Matt graduated from Auburn University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. In 1999 he earned his law degree from the Georgia State University College of Law. 

During his time in law school, Matt worked as a state-certified mediator and as a law clerk in the Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement (formerly INS) legal offices in Atlanta.  Matt went on to finish law school with a partial scholarship from a local philanthropic association.

Trial Experience

Soon after graduation, Attorney Kilgo worked as a GA DUI prosecutor, first with the Cherokee County Solicitor’s Office, prosecuting people; then for almost three years as an assistant solicitor in the City of Atlanta.

After service in the United States Marine Corps, Matt became a DUI prosecutor in Cobb County, Georgia, where he earned a name as an aggressive but fair trial attorney. 

Matt served as a felony trial prosecutor in the Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney’s Office and, later as regional counsel for the Recording Industry Association of America’s criminal anti-piracy program in the southeast.
